Reactive Steel Target Instructor Workshop

This concept is the underlying theory behind steel targets. For every shot that is on target, you get instant feedback from seeing the target react and hearing that satisfying "clang" as the bullet makes impact. While steel targets are a fantastic training tool, they add a level of safety considerations beyond traditional target shooting.. Therefore, you have to consider what is behind the target as well as what could potentially be hit in the area the bullet is being redirected to. If that redirection is improper or inconsistent, it can pose a significant risk. This course will cover the many different types of steel targets and the proper and safe use of them.

RedMan Instructor

This program is designed to prepare the instructor to train and supervise demonstrators in the proper use of RedMan® Training Equipment. Decades of "lessons learned" have taught RedMan Instructors that they should not be wearing the RedMan® Equipment. Instead, these instructors should be supervising properly trained and supervised demonstrators who are wearing the protective equipment. Supervisors should "supervise" training drills and simulations, not be a part of the melee. Only then can training drills and simulations be conducted effectively, realistically, and, most of all, safely. The entire course is based on the premise that the instructor will go back and train and supervise a cadre of properly selected and trained demonstrators.

Instruction will deal with incorporating the instructors existing techniques and tactics into drills that utilize Tactical Communication, subject control, aerosol sprays, impact weapons, and lethal force up to and including the use of training munitions. The Seven Levels of Simulation will be explored as will be the use of a full range of defensive tactics training tools including training weapons, striking shields, and impact training protective equipment. This course will develop the building blocks to assist instructors in developing the skills necessary to lead to future training scenarios. Using the "isolation exercise" concept, instructors will understand, participate in , and learn how to train their demonstrators in how to cover this crucial middle ground.

Topics that will be covered are:

  • Learn how to train demonstrators to move in the RedMan® XP Suit, protect themselves from the environment, and how to take blunt force impact during training drills and simulations
  • Review RedMan® Product Guide, Warnings & Cautions, and Product DVD to assist the instructor in the proper use of this equipment

Shaykhet Confrontation Training Program

Lee Shaykhet was born in the former Soviet Union. He graduated from Moscow University and provided training for the military. In 1979 he emigrated to the U.S. Since that time he taught numerous training programs throughout the country. Gary Klugiewicz introduced Lee to the Law Enforcement training community. This program is about the typical problems and issues that occur in a confrontation, and how to successfully deal with them. There are some basic concepts that are addressed. There is a principle difference between the traditional approach to self defense, and the practical side of the matter. The simple fact is that people under stressful conditions cannot do complicated step by step techniques. Lee keeps it simple because that actually works. The training deals the psychological stress of a confrontation and how to deal with it. The OODA Loop principle is also explained. There is a scenario based practical part, where the students get to actually put what they learned into practice. The program is broken down into five simple basic concepts.

"I believe that it is smart to keep it simple, this is the foundation of all my training" —Lee Shaykhet

Steel targets that will be utilized:

  • Plate racks
  • Pepper poppers
  • Silhouettes w/ hostage and pelvic targets
  • IDPA and Tactical torso’s with reactive centers and heads
  • Dueling trees

Topics that will be covered are:

  • Steel Reactive Targets: Safety and Use
  • Steel Target Safety Rules
  • Steel target design
  • Angle of Deflection
  • Target Hardness
  • Ammunition
  • Inspection
  • Target Placement
